Champion hammer thrower Julia Ratcliffe admits her retirement from the sport has been a couple of years in the making

Ratcliffe exits athletics as a three time Commonwealth Games medallist - including gold on the Gold Coast in 2018.

She says COVID ultimately extended her career after the Tokyo Olympics was pushed out a year to 2021.

By that point she'd already qualified for the Birmingham Games - which she knew would be her last major competition.
