Tom Walsh is ready to make a statement while chasing his 14th national shot put title this afternoon

Walsh heads to Wellington after a 21.80 heave in Christchurch last month - his best throw on New Zealand soil in five years.

He couldn't be happier with his home season to date.

This afternoon's nationals will also be the first time Walsh has meet his Kiwi rival Jacko Gill this year.

High jumper Hamish Kerr and the women's pole vault also this afternoon.
