Sam Tanner has reflected on pursuing three running peaks in this Olympic year

Sam Tanner has reflected on pursuing three running peaks in this Olympic year

The first is breaking Nick Willis' 1500 metre best of three minutes 29.66 seconds, set at Monaco in 2015.

The second is Sir John Walker's mile time of three minutes 49.08 seconds, registered at Oslo in 1982.

The third is becoming the seventh New Zealander to earn a Games medal in the 1500.

Tanner says he was inspired by running a mile last weekend at Cooks Gardens in Whanganui - where Sir Peter Snell broke the world record over that distance in 1962.
