A New Zealand rider has been involved in a bunch crash on the Volta ao Algarve in Portugal

A New Zealand rider has been involved in a bunch crash on the Volta ao Algarve in Portugal

Ireland's Sam Bennett sprinted to victory in the opening stage but his Deceuninck Quickstep teammate Shane Archbold was toppled in a peloton domino effect five kilometres from the finish.

The Flying Mullet eventually climbed back on his bike to limp home.

Another teammate, Fabio Jakobsen , was also caught up - he's only recently returned after a life-threatening incident on the Tour of Poland last year.
