There's been another serious crash leaving a motorcyclist with critical injuries

The motorcycle and a car collided on Hukanui Road in Chartwell shortly after 8 this evening.

    Traffic management is in place.

Earlier, a motorcyclist died in a crash on State Highway 6, the Harihari Highway south of Hokitika.

Police were called to the scene at Kakapotahi near the Waitaha River Bridge about 5:15.

They say no other vehicle was involved.

The Kings Birthday Weekend road death toll is now 5, the highest since 6 people died on our roads over the same weekend in 2019.
