Queenstown is preparing to welcome Aucklanders with open arms

Queenstown is preparing to welcome Aucklanders with open arms

People fully vaccinated or returning a negative Covid test within 72 hours will be able to travel outside of Auckland from December 15.

Mayor Jim Boult says it's a very positive announcement and he's hoping for a stampede of Aucklanders.

He says locals are very aware they're a visitor destination, and have been proactive in getting vaccinated.

Queenstown-Lakes District hit the 90 percent double dosed milestone yesterday.

Boult says the DHB is well prepared and has contingency plans in place.
