Wellington Water has fronted up to the region's Mayors, over a scathing report

The report looked into a 51 million dollar blunder which saw the agency tell councils they needed less funding then they actually did.

The report's found a lack of leadership in the agency and issues with its organisational culture.

But mayors and councillors have butted heads over the meeting going into a private session.

Upper Hutt Mayor Wayne Guppy spoke against privacy.
