A new candidate has thrown their hat in the ring for the Wellington Mayoralty

A new candidate has thrown their hat in the ring for the Wellington Mayoralty

Chartered accountant Andrea Compton will go up against incumbent Tory Whanau and current councillor Ray Chung in the race for the city's top job next year.

She's a-political and wants to rein in spending at the council, as well as rip up cycleways, and get back to basics.

Compton has also floated the idea of cutting funding for facilities like Takina and the Wellington Zoo, and building a casino in the city.

She says while she may not have all the answers, she knows what "good" looks like, and the current council isn't it.
