Christchurch's Mayor says safety was the priority, in decisions over the contentious Church Corner intersection

Christchurch's Mayor says safety was the priority, in decisions over the contentious Church Corner intersection

The Riccarton, Yaldhurst and Main South Roads junction is in the top three-percent of the city's riskiest..

Councillors yesterday voted to retain the right-hand turn from Main South Road onto Riccarton Road -- and install traffic lights at the intersection.

Mayor Phil Mauger says locals were most concerned about safely joining Riccarton Road from Sockburn.

He says the big problem was the number of t-bone accidents, on the current give-way sign.
