The leader of Local Government New Zealand is looking past the country's history of voting against four year terms

The leader of Local Government New Zealand is looking past the country's history of voting against four year terms

The Government's putting forward legislation potentially allowing the extension of the Parliamentary term - putting the final decision down to a referendum.

LGNZ President and Selwyn Mayor Sam Broughton says this change would double productivity for councils as well.

He thinks New Zealand's matured since the referenda of the 60s and the 90s, and he's looking forward to the referendum.
