A group of illegal motorcyclists in Auckland have ground the mayor's gears

A group of illegal motorcyclists in Auckland have ground the mayor's gears

Videos posted to social media show hundreds of bikers tore around the streets of Mangere Bridge, Hillsborough and Lynfield over the weekend.

People on unregistered dirt bikes were doing burn outs, wheelies and speeding along the motorway -- most without helmets.

Mayor Phil Goff has slammed the reckless and idiotic behaviour, and says it puts the health and safety of the community at risk.

He says those responsible need to be held accountable -- and is asking anyone who could help identify the bikers to contact police.
