A clear split between Wellingtonians wanting more high density housing - and those who don't

A clear split between Wellingtonians wanting more high density housing - and those who don't

Wellington City Council's received nearly three-thousand submissions on its Draft Spatial Plan, outlining how the city intends to accommodate an extra 80-thousand people over the next thirty years.

Almost 60 percent support intensification of the central city, which includes increasing the maximum building height in Te Aro to at least 10 storeys.

Those in favour, feel it'll lead to more affordable and higher quality housing - as well as a more vibrant city.

Those opposed fear intensification could threaten the character of suburbs like Thorndon and Mount Victoria.
