Clashes in Christchurch over the City Council's Cathedral cash

Clashes in Christchurch over the City Council's Cathedral cash

Moves to delay the last payment of its 10-million dollar grant towards the Christ Church Cathedral's restoration, have been shut-down.

The council decided honouring the 2017 commitment, was a matter of good faith.

That's despite the Anglican diocese deciding next month whether to continue or mothball the project, amid budgetary shortfalls.

Councillor Sara Templeton told yesterday's discussion, her concerns about cash going to waste, if the project is scrapped.

She asked whether it was a wise spend of ratepayers money.
