The Government's putting forward legislation potentially allowing the extension of the Parliamentary term - putting the final decision down to a referendum.
LGNZ President and Selwyn Mayor Sam Broughton says  this change would double productivity for councils as well.
He thinks New Zealand's matured since the referenda of the 60s and the 90s, and he's looking forward to the referendum.
