Auckland Mayor Wayne Brown is promising the Council takeover of AT's duties will improve lives

Auckland Council will this year become the primary decision-maker for transport strategy, planning, and road infrastructure, removing AT's independent status.

Brown says it will be a key focus of his second term - and things will get better this year.

He says there will be fewer cones, less annoying roadworks and less waste.
