The first step on the property ladder keeps getting harder for first home buyers

The first step on the property ladder keeps getting harder for first home buyers

The latest QV Index shows major price hikes in first home values in the cheapest parts of the country - including a 72 percent lift in the Ruapehu district over the past year.

Palmerston North, Napier and the Hutt City have also jumped 30 percent or more.

General Manager of QV David Nagel says it's down to supply and demand.

He says everyone is snapping up affordable houses while they still can.
