The chief of Southland's Tiwai Point aluminium smelter is moving on

The chief of Southland's Tiwai Point aluminium smelter is moving on

CEO Stew Hamilton will take on a new role with electricity generator Mercury in July - after working more than 20 years at the smelter.

His departure comes as the smelter moves closer to Rio Tinto's decision to wind up operations in 2024.

Rio Tinto says Hamilton's leadership has been valued during a period of public transition.
