A pause on the trans-Tasman bubble has been extended

A pause on the trans-Tasman bubble has been extended

Cabinet has extended the suspension on quarantine-free flights with Australia for another eight weeks.

The decision will be reviewed in mid to late November.

Deputy Prime Minister Grant Robertson says there are uncontrolled outbreaks in a few Australian states so, for now, this is the appropriate position.

He says they'll want to see where both countries vaccine rates are in eight weeks.

A tranche of three-thousand MIQ rooms will be released on Monday - with quarantine only flights set to take place in October and November.

A third managed red flight is also planned for people in emergency situations.
