Electric vehicle imports have ground to halt, as demand evaporates

Electric vehicle imports have ground to halt, as demand evaporates

Motor Industry Association data shows just one in 11 new vehicle sales are electric, compared to last year where it was one in every four.

The sales slump, follows the end of the clean car discount and the introduction of road user charges for the vehicles.

Imported Motor Vehicle Industry Chief Executive Greig Epps says cost is definitely a huge factor.

He says they're a great solution for the future, but they just aren't being supplied at a cheap enough rate for New Zealand.
