Insurers are asking the Government to ensure new RMA rules prohibit building in "dumb" places

Insurers are asking the Government to ensure new RMA rules prohibit building in "dumb" places

The Resource Management Act reform's second phase - includes developing a National Direction for natural hazards, including being able to decline consents on risky land.

Insurance Council chief executive, Kris Faafoi, says they support greater natural hazard management, but want assurance development will stop at high-risk locations.

He says if we want to reduce damage, and reduce the cost to insurers, tax, and rate payers, we need to think differently about how and where we develop.
