Investigations are under way around the Interislander ferry Aratere and a suspected steering failure that caused it to run aground on Friday night.

It has been moved to a berth outside Picton's main wharf to ensure other ships are not disrupted.

Interislander Executive General Manager Duncan Roy says its currently working to accommodate affected freight with support from Bluebridge - this week.

Tourism Industry Aotearoa Chief Executive Rebecca Ingram says it's essential work is done quickly to give confidence to international travel and the tourism industry.

She says Kiwis and international visitors often have an inter-island crossing as part of their travel plans.
