Retailers are hoping new consumer confidence numbers will deliver a fruitful Boxing Day

Retailers are hoping new consumer confidence numbers will deliver a fruitful Boxing Day

The latest ANZ-Roy Morgan Index for December shows confidence rise back into triple figures.

Retail NZ chief executive Carolyn Young says stores saw a variety of results from Black Friday, ranging from up, to flat and slightly down on the previous year.

But she says the average price per transaction has continued to be down all year.

Carolyn Young says it's a sign people are cautious about what they're spending, but they're slowly seeing a little more spend come through -- and they hope that flows through.
