Former Black Caps captain Ross Taylor believes Tim Southee needed to show more with the bat late in the second innings in the first cricket test loss to Australia

Former Black Caps captain Ross Taylor believes Tim Southee needed to show more with the bat late in the second innings in the first cricket test loss to Australia

The tail-ender was dismissed at long on as he skied an attempt for six with his side in dire straights and eight down.

Taylor says it sends a bad message and the optics weren't great.

The second test starts on Friday in Christchurch.
