Kalyn Ponga is open to switching representative allegiances to play for the Kiwis

Kalyn Ponga is open to switching representative allegiances to play for the Kiwis

Although the Newcastle and Queensland fullback is yet to get the ball rolling on officially making the switch, Ponga has told AAP he is open to a switch to New Zealand.

The possibility of a switch first emerged last year but Ponga now has a case study to follow after AJ Brimson was given the green light to change allegiances from Australia to England.

Brimson - like Ponga - only pulled on the green and gold at a Nines tournament in 2019.

Ponga says he says with the rules currently he's not allowed to but he would be open to a switch.

Any such move would end his Origin career, but Ponga could lodge an application after playing for Queensland in this year's Origin series and likely have it approved in time for the World Cup starting in September.
