Proposed changes to the kick-off in league's NRL for the 2026 season have been kicked into touch

They've confirmed the status-quo will remain - after deciding not to proceed with a change to allow the conceding team the option to kick off or receive following a try.
The Australian Rugby League Commission says while the proposal was initially supported - consultation identified several concerns.
However - the Commission has endorsed a trial of the kick-off rule change for matches at the end of this season that have no bearing on the NRL Finals.
Among the rule changes that have been approved for 2026 are tighter restrictions on trainers coming onto the field.
The interchange bench has also been expanded from four to six, although only four of those players may be used.
