Calls to declare a health workforce emergency continue as a survey finds 86 percent of doctors believe there's a staffing emergency

Calls to declare a health workforce emergency continue as a survey finds 86 percent of doctors believe there's a staffing emergency

This week the Association of Salaried Medical Specialists called on the Government to declare a health workforce emergency as Omicron takes hold.

The Medical Association backed the call.

The survey by Medworld found 65 percent are experiencing burnout and a third of doctors are being asked to complete work beyond their scope of expertise.

Medworld CEO and founder Sam Hazledine says it's a crisis situation.

He says they were already at breaking point before Covid-19 and have gone well beyond that point before Omicron has even ramped up.
