The way people move through Auckland's main street is changing

The way people move through Auckland's main street is changing

From today, only motorcycles, mopeds, bicycles, goods vehicles and emergency service vehicles will be allowed to use a part of Queen Street.

The Essential Vehicle Area, between Wellesley and Wakefield streets, is part of the City Centre Masterplan to regenerate the area.

Planning Committee chair Councillor Chris Darby says it will free up precious space along the street.

He says it's an important early step to make it more desirable for people who live, work, study and enjoy the city centre.
