A small lift in euthanasia deaths

The Ministry of Health's released its annual report on the assisted dying service - launched in 2021. More than a thousand applications were active in the 12 months to April - up 20 percent on the previous year.

Over that year, 472 people received an assisted death - and 125 applicants were still being assessed or waiting.

Those remaining weren't progressed because the applicant was ineligible, withdrew or died during the process.
