A Waikato teacher's been censured after being caught drinking wine from a drink bottle while on lunch duty

A Waikato teacher's been censured after being caught drinking wine from a drink bottle while on lunch duty

Open Justice reports the woman was struggling with alcoholism in 2022.

The teacher had been caught shoplifting wine a few years prior - citing the lockdown and a marriage separation as contributing to her downward spiral.

The Teacher's Disciplinary Tribunal found while there's no evidence students were adversely affected, she placed learners at risk.

She's required to tell future employers about the tribunal's decision, and develop a relapse prevention plan.
