The Ministry of Education is being slammed for 'continually failing' Maori students

The Ministry of Education is being slammed for 'continually failing' Maori students

New figures reveal Maori make up almost half of students who left school last year without a qualification.

National Maori Authority executive chair Matthew Tukaki says the Ministry is doing nothing to turn that trend around.

He says 2020 is likely to show much of the same because on average Maori students had less access to technology and internet over lockdown.

He wants a dedicated Government plan to address Maori students' early leaving rates.
