Police are reminding protestors Putiki Bay on Waiheke Island is an active construction site

Police are reminding protestors Putiki Bay on Waiheke Island is an active construction site

Mana whenua and supporters have been occupying the area for two months - in a bid to stop the development of a contentious marina.

The group's urging the Police Commissioner to launch an inquiry over the rising number of officers on site and alleged excessive force.

It's petition on Action Station has nearly three-thousand signatures.

But the Police say their ongoing presence is to ensure all parties involved are safe - and crossing over into the site poses a safety risk.

A spokesman says there's been five recent arrests which will lead to trespassing charges.
