The Government's standing by its cost of living measures in this year's budget

The Government's standing by its cost of living measures in this year's budget

New Zealander's earning under 70-thousand-dollars will get a one-off $350 payment over three months later this year.

    Beneficiaries won't get the payment.

Treasury recommended against the payment, saying it will make inflation worse in the short term.

Finance Minister Grant Robertson told Newshub Nation those receiving income support have had a 22 percent increase in a year - but there's a wider group who need support.

He says 81 percent of working age people are getting some form of targeted cost of living support, which he reckons is doing good by New Zealanders.
