    New Dame Companion, Dorothy Spotswood says she's grateful to be recognised for her more than 50 years donating to health


    The philanthropist's been awarded the top honour in the 2026 New Year's Honours list.

    Spotswood and her partner have put millions into funding Wellington's Children's Hospital, and a Lower Hutt mental health facility.

    She's also bought land and funded homes in Kapiti for kids with disabilities.

    Spotswood says her philanthropic endeavours have been very rewarding and she's humbled to be recognised.
