    A health warning -- after high levels of faecal bacteria were found in Akaroa's Glen Bay


    The bacteria was found in a recent sample - and authorities haven't yet found the source.

    Canterbury Medical Officer of Health, Dr Ramon Pink, says the water's not safe for swimming or recreational use.

    Locals should also avoid eating shellfish from the bay.

    Environment Canterbury's taking more samples -- to nail down the possible cause.
