The Government's recruiting for an Aged Care Commissioner

The Government's recruiting for an Aged Care Commissioner

The search will begin in August with hopes to fill the role in the next six months, to ensure better oversight of the aged care sector.

In the past year, the Health and Disability Commissioner received 259 complaints about aged residential care.

There were also 147 complaints about home and community support services... with inadequate care the most common concern.

Associate Health Minister Ayesha Verrall says the current system for ensuring quality and safety is fragmented.

She says a commissioner will be critical for improving the system for the wellbeing of people reliant on help, and their loved ones.
