Little surprise Auckland's Covid Omicron cases are on the rise again

Little surprise Auckland's Covid Omicron cases are on the rise again

Modelling predicts the region's seven-day rolling case average could climb to more than three-thousand in coming weeks.

Cases peaked across Auckland's three District Health Boards at 13-thousand-252 in early March.

Infections then fell to less than 16-hundred in mid-April -- but the average was nearing 25-hundred by the start of this week.

Covid Modelling Aotearoa project lead Dion O'Neale says it follows the move to Orange.

He says people may have interpreted the shift as being safe to drop some precautions, such as going out more and spending more time indoors unmasked.
