Hopes new funding will improve health treatment for the LGBT community

4.7 million dollars is going into healthcare to support transgender and intersex people.

The trans funding will go towards support around transitioning and hormone therapy, while intersex funding will provide training and clinical guidelines.

Associate Health Minister Ayesha Verrall says intersex people have suffered at the hands of the medical system.

She says they've often been made to undergo disfiguring surgeries, which have caused great mental distress.
