Changes to the sale and supply of alcohol in Christchurch could benefit the hospitality sector

Changes to the sale and supply of alcohol in Christchurch could benefit the hospitality sector

The City Council has decided to start the process of developing a Local Alcohol Policy, to reduce harm.

It decided not to pursue this in 2018, but last year's legislative changes have simplified the process.

Canterbury University professor Doug Sellman says hospitality venues are undermined by supermarkets and liquor stores selling alcohol at cheaper prices.

He says a restriction on off-licence venues in the evenings would help the hospitality industry.
