Belief lessons can be learnt after two Canterbury mental health patients murdered members of the public

A review was lodged after a Hillmorton Hospital patient on leave, killed a woman in 2022 -- and another woman was murdered by a separate patient as the review was taking place.

Ministry of Health Mental Health Director, Dr John Crawshaw, will oversee implementation of his 18 recommendations, over the next year.

He understands the report is confronting.

But Crawshaw says it's important the system knows and learns from these incidents - as he doesn't do a review like this lightly.
