It's believed more than 9-hundred Kiwi women could benefit from expanded access to breast cancer medication

It's believed more than 9-hundred Kiwi women could benefit from expanded access to breast cancer medication

The drug Kisqali is only funded for advanced breast cancer - but a global study's found major benefits for those in earlier stages.

Combined with hormone therapy, the drug reduces the risk of cancer recurrence by an estimated 28-percent.

The Breast Cancer Foundation's Mehdi Shabazpour says New Zealand spends a lot less on breast cancer medications than Australia and the UK.

He's calling on Pharmac to fund more medications for early breast cancer.
