    Hospitals are facing a growing problem of antibiotic-resistant infections


    Christchurch Hospital is currently dealing with two small outbreaks of VRE.

    Fewer than 10 patients are affected on one ward, with two different strains - one has been linked to an Auckland cluster.

    Otago University professor of public health, Michael Baker says VRE is just one anti-microbial resistance infections.

    He says it poses a real risk to vulnerable patients in hospital. 11-14-25 1813
