    A man's expected to appear in the Gisborne District Court today in relation to a firearms incident in Ruatoria


    The 49-year-old is charged with unlawful possession of a firearm.

    Police were called to McClutchie Road shortly before 9.30 on Saturday morning, following reports of shots fired.

    Before they arrived a number of vehicles left the scene at speed - one of which crashed on Waiomatatini Road a short time later.

    Police would like to speak to anyone who saw that crash.

    There's a heightened Police presence in the area while enquiries continue.
