An assessment will determine whether a teenage murderer will return to a youth justice facility or be held by Corrections when he's recaptured

An assessment will determine whether a teenage murderer will return to a youth justice facility or be held by Corrections when he's recaptured

Sixteen-year-old Haami Hanara and 17-year-old Sean Ratu are at large after breaking through a window to flee from a youth justice facility on Saturday night.

Oranga Tamariki's deputy chief executive of youth justice Allan Boreham says clinical psychologists from Oranga Tamariki and Corrections will carry out the assessment.

He says the circumstances of the escape and anything they've done during the escape will be taken into consideration at any future assessment.
