An investigation is underway after a firearms incident in Oropi, in the Bay of Plenty early this morning

Police were called to Mountain Road around midnight and found a person seriously injured.

Nearly an hour later a firearm was discharged again near Seales Road, hitting a civilian vehicle - nobody was injured.

One person was located at an address in Oropi and after a police negotiation, they were arrested around half past three.

A 51-year-old man has been charged with recklessly discharging a firearm and is due to appear in Tauranga District Court tomorrow.

A scene guard remains in place and a scene examination will be carried out today.
