A wild chase through Auckland has left three police vehicles damaged and a man in custody

Police approached a car with mismatched plates in Western Springs about 3pm - and the driver sped off towards Point Chevalier. Officers followed it in the Eagle helicopter - as it drove erratically though numerous suburbs.

Inspector Kerry Watson says the vehicle continued despite being spiked multiple times, but met its match at Onehunga's Dress Smart shopping centre.

He says a staff member blocked in the vehicle - and police managed to take the driver into custody.
