Concerns over the mental health protections for police officers using firearms

Concerns over the mental health protections for police officers using firearms

Armed officers shot and injured a man and killed a woman in Bryndwr on Wednesday night after she threatened them with a hunting knife.

The Council of Licensed Firearm Owners says there are very strict regulations for gun owners showing signs of anxiety or depression.

Spokesperson Hugh Deveraux-Mack says Police aren't given the same treatment - because they aren't licensed.

He says there is no requirement for their GP to raise concerns because it would breach medical privacy.
