A 43-year-old man's accused of illegally importing almost 930-thousand cigarettes and evading 1.4 million dollars in taxes

Customs arrested the man after a search warrant in Auckland yesterday.

Earlier this month, its officers intercepted most of the cigarettes in shipments from China, which were declared as clothes.

It says neither the defendant nor recipient company hold a permit for importing cigarettes.

The man's charged with importing prohibited goods, defrauding Customs revenue, and possession of uncustomed goods.
