The Police watchdog's found four officers in Hamilton acted unlawfully when arresting a man in a shopping centre carpark in 2022

The Police watchdog's found four officers in Hamilton acted unlawfully when arresting a man in a shopping centre carpark in 2022

It's after they used force to handcuff the man while trying to carry out a vehicle check.

The man's partner was also arrested, as was a shop owner who filmed the incident, but no one was charged.

The Independent Police Conduct Authority has found the officer who stopped the car did so because he had profiled the man based on his facial tattoos.

Police acknowledge the officer who initially stopped the car did not have a legal reason to do so.
