A police officer has been shot dead in Samoa while attempting to arrest a murder suspect

Detective Sergeant Peniamina Perite was arresting a suspect in Fasitoo-Uta , on the north-west coast of Upolu Island, when he suffered fatal gunshot wounds.

Samoa Police say Perite was a dedicated and exemplary officer, who served with distinction, honour, and unwavering commitment.

They say Perite's absence will be deeply felt by his colleagues and friends, and the wider community.
