A Christchurch man has been jailed for 18 months, and banned from fishing for three years, for poaching more than 14-hundred sea cucumbers

Jason Murray Nix was charged after police found more than a thousand sea cucumbers in his car while impounding it in 2023.

The 55-year-old was then caught with another 400 a year later.

The daily limit per person for sea cucumbers is 50.

A range of the man's equipment, including two boats and a car, has also been forfeited to the Crown.
